Wines Aligoté

The Aligoté Grape

The Aligoté grape is very much in the shadow of its more famous Burgundian stable mate Chardonnay. Aligoté creates a crisp, white wine, designed to be drunk young, and is a key component of a Kir (along with blackcurrant liqueur). It also makes the sparkling Crémant de Bourgogne. It is an early-ripening variety which is relatively resistant to frost. There are also plantings of Aligoté in Eastern Europe.
