Black Friday - All Reds
Rosade Furlane Merlot Venezia Giulia IGT, 2018: A great Tuesday night supper bottle, easy lunch-time red, it would be quicker to list the things this wouldn't pair with rather than those which would.
Castello di Torre Elephas Rosso, 2019: "The 2019 Castello di Torre Elephas from Lazio is an organic blend of Montepulciano, Sangiovese and Merlot fermented in concrete vats. It’s young, I know, but not a wine to age. Drink it now and revel in its fresh, juicy cherry-like fruit and imagine you’re on some sun-dappled Roman terrace, a steaming plate of bucatini all’amatriciana in front of you and a gorgeous companion with which to share it." Jonathan Ray, The Spectator
Estancia del Silencio, Jumilla, 2018: This gorgeous red is made from 100% Monastrell and offers a charming nose of warm, fruity aromas. On the palate the dark fruits rise to the fore, backed by smooth creamy tannins. Jumilla always provides the perfect foil for a pizza and the Estancia del Silencio is no exception.
Quinta do Correio Tinto, 2017: "We fell in love with the story behind this wine – and then tasted it and fell a bit more. The vineyard was originally owned by the village postman who would hand out his rustic wine along with the day’s letters and parcels, hence the word Correio on the label which means post in Portuguese. Wonderfully aromatic with a herbaceous undertone, this easy drinking red would be a great addition to barbecue meats as the weather warms up but is equally well suited to hearty tomato based stews." The Independant
Belle Etoile Merlot, 2019: "The 2019 La Belle Etoile ‘Décadence’ Merlot is an easy-going quaffing red from the Languedoc. With plenty of bramble fruit jam on the nose, lots of forward, juicy fruit in the mouth and just a touch of tannin, it slips down easily and is really rather jolly." Jonathan Ray, Spectator Wine
Grace Bridge Pinot Noir, 2018: "There's something of a fashion to find the most rare and unusual wine styles these days - the more obscure and arcane, the better. But forget Nascetta from Langhe or Humagne from the Valais, the most rare wine in the world is good, proper Pinot Noir for under £15 a bottle - that's the real holy grail.." Richard Hemming, MW
