In the local native language, Antucura means Sun Stone and the vineyard’s sun stone logo now appears on every bottle. In the foothills of the Andes Mountains, the Vista Flores district of the Valle de Uco is now regarded as one of the most important wine areas of Mendoza.
The soil here is composed of boulders and glacial stones; helped by the 1,000 m altitude, the climate has huge temperature swings between day and night leading to a long ripening season, resulting in super concentrated fruit.
In 2011, Bordeaux oenologist Hervé Chagneau joined the boutique winery as winemaker. The vines are clones imported directly from Bordeaux. Harvesting is a double pass by hand. The wine is aged in French oak barrels. This all goes to show the French inspiration for these top quality Argentinian wines.
The owner, Anne-Caroline Biancheri, is surely on to a winner.
