Bodega Mi Terruño
The Mi Terruño Winery is a family-run business that’s nearly 40 years old. It has a privileged position: the San Roque district, Maipú county in Mendoza, Argentina. Maria Eugenia Baigorria is the winemaker while, Gabriel, her brother looks after the commercial side of the business. They’ve invested in high tech machinery to enable quality at each step of the wine production. This has resulted in recommendations, awards and several wines being scored over 90 points. The winery itself is easily recognised as it is covered in small glazed glass tiles. There is an image of San Roque, in mosaic, using tiny tesserae of different colours – a work of art. San Roque is the patron saint of dogs and falsely accused people, amongst other things! The area suffers from frequent, low-intensity earthquakes, but every 20 years or so, after a period of seismic silence, there’s a big one. These shake-ups bring deep-buried minerals closer to the surface, which impart special characteristics to the wine.
