Plenty of botrytis. Dense and flavorful finish. Big wine for the vintage.
Chateau Suduiraut is located close to Chateau d’Yquem and its sloping hillsides is made up of gravel, sand, limestone and clay soils. Since it was sold to the AXA insurance in 1992, the Chateau has been lavished with attention and the wines have greatly benefited from the investment. The region of Sauternes in general had a tough year in 2018; the very warm and very long summer limited the growth of the all-important “noble rot” but there were exceptions and Chateau Suduiraut was one of them. The team worked tirelessly over the growing season and they managed a small 6hl/ha harvest with a 125 g/l of residual sugar, which is less than usual.
"A Sauternes with tart tartin, cooked apple and caramel. It’s full-bodied, juicy and sweet, yet there’s lots of caramel and spice, too, such as cloves. Comes across almost dry. But lots of sweetness. Pure semillon. Unique. Tiny production." 97-98 pts, James Suckling
"Golden hue but still a little cloudy. Pure aromatics with peach and nectarine notes to the fore. Palate rich, fat and unctuous but balanced by the zesty, bitter-edged note of the botrytis. "Full of pleasure, silky and richly textured, easy to sink into but carefully measured at the same time, addings its layers of orange peel, bloody orange, white pepper spice and truffle slowly but surely as it inches through the palate. Tiny floral notes accompany the saline minerality on the finish. Almost no botrytis in September, and then when the weather deteriorated at the end of September things really became a bit worrying. But they were able to hold on until October 19 (after stopping at the end of September, I imagine needing nerves of steel). Yields of around 8hl/ha. 3,000 cases of Suduiraut. 137g/l of residual sugar. A great example of what botrytis does - the pH is at 4, so the freshness comes from the bitterness of botrytis not high acidities." 96 pts, Jane Anson, Decanter

'Express Delivery' (Free Next Day Delivery) is available for orders over £75 placed before 1pm Monday to Thursday. Orders over £75 but placed after 1pm will still benefit from 'Fast & Free Delivery', and will revert to an estimated 1-3 working days. For orders under £75, 'Fast Delivery' is charged at £12.50, arriving in an estimated 1-3 working days.
London Same Day Delivery is available to most London postcodes as listed in our T&Cs, if ordered by 11am Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays). For orders over £75 London Same Day, delivery is charged at £15. For orders under £75 London Same Day, delivery is charged at £27.50. If ordered after 11am, you will receive your order on the next working day. We may be able to organise a speedy courier for you, so please call or email us if you have special requests. Saturday Delivery costs £30. This option is available to all UK mainland postcodes for orders placed between 1pm on Thursday and 1pm on Friday. This is optional at checkout, to be chosen in place of our standard 1 – 3 working day service. Our Club Offers may take longer to ship, as we collect all of our members’ orders together before ordering them from the winemaker. The expected delivery timelines for each product should be specified on the product page. Otherwise, please contact us for the information.
