Carter Margaret River
In 1896, Ryan Carter's great great grandfather Thomas Carter documented in his diary planting vines at Marybrook, one of the earliest recordings of winegrowing in Margaret River. Five generations later the Carter family is still growing grapes, and making wine, in Marybrook. As well as with his father and brother, Ryan has made wines for two of Australia’s Chardonnay giants on both sides of the country Shaw & Smith (Adelaide) and the mighty Leeuwin Estate nearer to home in Margaret River. He has also worked with another legend, Paolo di Marchi at Isole E Olena in Chianti (whose Chardonnay is one of Italy’s top five) as well as with Coates & Seely here in the UK, which was when we first met him.
