Castello Romitorio Rosso Montalcino DOC
In young wines the note of fruit is pure and of variable intensity from one year to another.
- Tuscany, Italy
A brilliant and expressive red wine produced in Montalcino from the younger vineyards of the company. The result is a classic Tuscan red that has all the grace and strength of the youth of a Sangiovese di Montalcino. Brunello destined for long aging and Rosso di Montalcino with a more fresh and lively style. It can be produced only from Sangiovese grapes and can be marketed from the beginning of September of the year following the harvest.
"Garnet red color clear and translucent. The inviting nose is typical of Sangiovese: the penetrating aroma of marasca cherries. With refinement in the bottle, this fresh and pungent cherry scent becomes sweet and dried. In young wines the note of fruit is pure and of variable intensity from one year to another. The body is nervous and dry: not a beautified, softened Sangiovese, but a wine as tough as its land. It presents a fine and lively freshness and a delicious tannic persistence, which is felt without weighing. A few years of aging will donate a great deal to this true charmer, who with bottle rest will be enriched with hints of leather, wild thyme and polished wood." Anne Krebiehl MW
"Pressed lavender and violets with blueberries and fresh herbs. Medium body, fine tannins and a tangy finish. Drink now." 91/100, James Suckling
"The 2017 Rosso di Montalcino is a lean to medium-bodied expression of Sangiovese that would pair perfectly with a heaping plate of pasta with spicy Amatriciana sauce. The wine offers honest and natural informality (with quick-drinking appeal) that is enhanced by sweet cherry, forest fruit and lightly toasted almond." Monica Larner, Wine Advocate
