Castello di Torre
Castello di TorreThere is documentation of the vineyards around Castello di Torre from the sixteenth century when the fund belonged to the Peretti family (Pope Sixtus V). The estate was bought in the 30s by Senator Luigi Albertini, former director and owner of the Corriere della Sera, and a company, specialising in the production of milk was established. Later Luigi Albertini (grandfather of the owners, Maria and Margherita Carandini) intended to strengthen the wine business by expanding the existing cellar in Castello di Torre in Pietra and planting new vineyards. The winery is located within the medieval village of Torre in Pietra; it has been obtained by digging into the tuff hill behind the Castle (in the thirties by digging a connecting tunnel between the old caves two prehistoric mammoth tusks were discovered).
