Lafitte got its name from the plateau on which vines were first planted in 1365.
When Daniel and Florence Cathiard, both champion skiers who competed in the Olympics, bought the winery in 1990, they invested massively in redesign and modernization, moving towards a more biodynamic approach including abandoning mechanical harvesting for handpicking their grapes.
The 67 hectare Pessac Leognan vineyard produces both red and white wine. A large part, 56 hectares, are used for their reds.
