Pinot Noir is a delicate variety and we need more water and less sun\u003c\/em\u003e”. Overall he preferred slightly fewer whole bunches and less new oak than 2018. Etienne adds that 2019 has a “\u003cem\u003eclassic textural character\u003c\/em\u003e” and was “\u003cem\u003ea consensual vintage – everyone could make the style of wine they wanted, unlike the last three vintages, here there is something for everyone\u003c\/em\u003e”.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe latter is certainly true here at de Montille with chiselled, polished reds and racy but juicy whites. The aromas are up front, a combination of red and black plums and cherry tobacco and a hint of polish and pencil lead. Palate is very juicy, with bright summer fool fruits and the sponge to match, a hint of star anise, plus crunchy peppery fresh tannins.
