Domaine Louis Remy (Chantal Remy since 2009) is the current iteration of ancient family holdings in the heart of the Cote de Nuits. Originally all held under the name Charles Remy, the vineyards of Philippe Remy were sold to DRC’s co-owner Lalou Bize-Leroy in 1988 to form the heart of the new Domaine Leroy.

Chantal's son Florian totally took over the work in 2013. The winemaking remains commendably old school: A horse is employed in the vineyards, which are farmed with no chemicals at all, rarely more than ten percent whole bunch is added, and only a third new oak is used in the extended ageing process, before bottling without fining or filtration. The resultant wines are neither fleshy nor flashy, instead showing a nobility, poise and delicacy which is all too rare today.

"Tasted blind at the annual "Burgfest" tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru from Domaine Chantal Remy showed reductive out of barrel, but even then I felt there was a great wine lurking somewhere...and so it has turned out to be. Here, it has a more primal bouquet than Roche de Bellene's Clos de la Roche 2012, with blueberry and cassis fruit joining the blackberry here, very fine definition, the oak tangible but integrated nicely. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, nuanced and understated on the entry, yet gaining intensity as it builds towards a complex finish, more red than black fruit infused with sage and morel mushroom aromas. This is already brimming over with personality, though it has a long way to go." 94 pts, Neal Marin WA
