It’s always nice to make a new discovery and for the 2019 Burgundy En Primeur campaign we are excited to introduce the top wines from Christian Clerget – in what will be considered, looking back, the domaine’s breakout year. The samples arrived rather late to taste but it's been worth the wait. Destemmed in 2019, with 30% new oak on ‘Les Violettes’ and 40% on ‘Charmes’ and Echezeaux, there is real purity and succulence across the range with a minerality and tension that quivers like a bloodhound on the scent.
The Clerget estate has seen four generations of winegrowers in their vineyards of Chambolle-Musigny, Morey-St-Denis, Vougeot and Vosne-Romanée. Reviews of previous vintages from this 6ha fully organic domaine are sparse, as are profiles of Christian and wife Isabelle – now joined by daughter Justine, however the critical reception for 2019 has been fulsome and this is the year to discover the wines!
