Canapés & Nibbles
Most young winemakers come from families which have great viticultural tradition, but Pierrick Laroche’s father grew mainly cereals when he was a child. However, his first commercial vintage in 2010 - just 2,300 bottles - received top billing of three stars in France's wine magazine the Guide Hachette. This was a coup for a kid just out of the starting gate. England's MW Rosemary George praised his wines around the same time in 2012 at Chablis's annual post-harvest fair. She wrote: "His first vintage in 2010…. very good… with some firm, fresh minerality." This rare minerality in his Chablis also impressed his experienced peer, Didier Picq. Pierrick Laroche is definitely a name to watch in the coming years.
What to drink with... Canapés & Nibbles.
Often the precursor to an event, who can resist a glass of bubbles, a crisp white or a crowd pleasing red? So, if your nibbles are mainly pastry, pick a more acidic wine: Champagne, Sauvignon Blanc. Smoked salmon: bubbles are good but avoid an oaked Chardonnay: the tannins of the oak will clash with the smokiness of the salmon leaving a bitter aftertaste. Spicy nibbles: try our aromatic Riesling. Cocktail sausages: our Sélection Laurence Féraud Côtes du Rhône.
If you want to simplify your selection, stick to a rosé for everyone or go trendy retro with a sherry.
