Domaine Duroché Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru 'Lavaut-Saint-Jacques'

Pierre was one of our first appointments in November and set the bar high as always. The global demand for his Grands Crus means allocations are keenly fought over but the quality and value across the range is always exciting and we are pleased to have a good supply of Pierre’s various expressions of Gevrey Chambertin. In 2018 all the wines were picked in the first week of September and ABV is between 12.5-13.5%. New oak is kept to a minimum and there is 20% whole bunch for the 1er crus and up. The wines were bottled without fining or filtering in November. Pierre suggests the wines have the fruit of 2015 but with riper, silkier tannins and greater elegance, due to the water reserves from the heavy winter and spring rains. It was certainly a super set – from Bourgogne to Beze, and finishing our tasting with a 1969 Lavaut Saint Jacques (blind) shows that for all their deftness and elegance, Duroché’s wines are built to last.
Quite an aloof nose, with a whiff of woodsmoke, characterised by stones more than fruit, the grapes really transmitting the terroir. The palate is silky but precise, emphasising definition, elegance, almost monastic purity, and with vibrant aerien tannins – all the hallmarks of Duroché. Tom, Wine Guru

Six parcels making up 1.2 ha (nearly 3 acres), the oldest vines planted 1923. Part goes into the Vieilles Vignes cuvée. Tank sample but about to be bottled. Deep cherry red. Dark, lightly peppery red fruit with a delicate note of minerally rock dust. More chewy than Les Cazetiers, firmer texture, perfectly balanced by that dark and juicy fruit. 3 barrels in 2018. I almost forgot to take notes here., I was enjoying the wine so much! This is a case where there is an immense difference between the regular and the old vine bottling. Hard to imagine a wine with greater intensity that shows no signs at all of imbalance. It is all at the back of the palate. On the cusp of deep purple raspberry and fresher black fruit – there is never any doubting the inherent freshness in this wine, but the fruit super-saturates the palate. 5 Star Wine! 95-98/100, Jasper Morris MW
Aromas of dark berry fruit, cheeries, woodsmoke, and forest floor introduce the 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaut Saint-Jacques, a medium to full-bodied, elegant and enveloping wine that's fine-boned, lively and delicately extracted, exemplifying the Duroché style. 92-94/100, William Kelley, Wine Advocate
The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaut Saint-Jacques 1er Cru, which comes from six parcels, delivers one of the purest and most mineral-driven of Duroché’s aromatics this year, beautifully defined and resolutely classic in style. The palate is well balanced and rounded in the mouth, although I prefer the Champeaux this year, since this just feels a little smudged at present. Let’s see how it develops once in bottle. Standard Delivery takes 2-3 working days and costs £7.50 for orders under £75. Orders over £75 are subject to FREE Standard Delivery. Standard and Express Delivery is available for most mainland UK postcodes as listed in our T&Cs. Express Delivery costs £12.50. Express delivery orders over £75 are £5.
For Express Delivery (next working day) orders need to be placed before 1pm. Orders placed after 1pm will be received after two business days. Orders placed for next day delivery after 1pm on a Friday and before 1pm on a Monday will be delivered on Tuesday. Orders placed on a Bank Holiday will be similarly processed the day after the Bank Holiday and delivered the following day.
Same Day Delivery costs £20. This option is available to most London postcodes as listed in our T&Cs, if ordered by 1pm Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays). If ordered after 1pm, you will receive your order on the next working day. We may be able to organise a speedy courier for you, so please call or email us if you have special requests. What a great way to get that wine to your office or home for the evening!
Our Club Offers may take longer to ship, as we collect all of our members’ orders together before ordering them from the winemaker. The expected delivery timelines for each product should be specified on the product page. Otherwise, please contact us for the information.
