Domaine Johann Michel
Small but perfectly formed would be a good way to describe this very exciting domaine. Low yields from limited holdings mean that getting your hands on these great wines seems to be getting harder and harder. Add to that the fact that its wines keep getting great reviews, it’s perhaps of little surprise that there is not a lot to go round. Johann set up the domaine in 1997 and now farms organically although he is not yet certified. The appellation of Cornas is known for producing slightly foursquare wines lacking in finesse and subtlety yet Johann’s offerings could not be further from that stereotype. They have drive, definition, personality and most importantly, drinkability.
