UK

Vine growing is possible in the UK thanks to the Gulf Stream and possibly global warming. According to English winemakers, 10 years ago our climate was 0.5 °C on the wrong side of the optimum temperature for wine cultivation but has now changed to 0.5 °C above that threshold. Most wineries are in Kent, Sussex and Surrey but they extend to South Wales, Oxfordshire, Devon and Cornwall.

The UK has gained international acclaim for its traditional method sparkling wines, and Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier are the most planted varietals. The other vines planted tend to come from Germany: Seyval Blanc, Reichensteiner, Müller-Thurgar and Bacchus for white wine, and Dornfelder and Rondo for red wine.
