Gramercy Cellars Lower East
Blackcurrant freshness, which is juicy but not jammy, supported by fine tannins and gentle oak use.
- Washington State, United States
From Washington State's "Lower East Side" (Walla Wall Valley), this is Master Sommelier turned winemaker Greg Hambleton's Cabernet-dominant Bordeaux blend, which in a range of Rhonish blends offers a refreshing blackcurranty change.
"This is one of my favourite New World Cabernet-based wines, it has none of the heavily-extracted sweet fruit and hit of vanilla and alcohol one too often finds further south in Napa. Instead there is a blackcurrant freshness, which is juicy but not jammy, supported by fine tannins and gentle oak use. Aromas of soil, graphite, cedar and baking spices complement the fruit and follow through on the palate accompanying a wave of black and red berry fruits with impressive purity and intensity." Tom Harrow
