Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier, Pinot Noir

From perfectly-sited vineyards in the Kent countryside, protected by trees and high hedges producing exceptional fruit. A blend of traditional Champagne grapes, the wines rarely undergoes malo-lactic fermentation so retain a distinctly English crispness: Think David Niven sauntering along the riviera in a freshly-pressed linen suit.

"Our island has made great advances in viticulture and wine-making in the last five years. There are now a good dozen estates that have mastered the shiver factor of the high, sometimes excessive acidity of old. Still, no one does it better than at Herbert Hall in wines, which pre-eminently have the silky feel of fine Champagne - though of course the taste and style are very different. HH is so English, a celebration of fresh, fragrant fruit from your favourite Kentish orchard. The other key to excellence is of course the hand of man."
Michael Edwards (July-2015)

Not trying to be Champagne, it is a true expression of the fruit that grows in a little corner of the Garden of England. Clean, fresh, fruit-driven wine and with just a tiny hint of autolytic character. Very traditional yet also very modern.

We have loved this wine since first trying it (and the Brut too) – and whilst Nick is playing around with malolactic fermentation the wine retains its apple fresh crispness and bite. It’s a great apéritif but has the structure to pair with shellfish and is lovely with a bowl of fresh strawberries too. Superb.

Herbert Hall

Unlike most of his peers among the top English Sparkling Wine founder/producers, Nick Hall does all of the work himself – from tending the vines through to pressing and winemaking and ultimately bottling, labelling and even dating by hand, working late into the night, listening to Syd Barrett songs on the winery hi-fi, signing off each bottle as he goes.
