Jane Eyre, Côte du Jura
One of the rising stars of the Burgundy micro-négociant movement, Australian-born Jane Eyre-Renard is one of our all time-favourite producers and the wines she’s been making in Burgundy are some of the most accessible in our whole portfolio. So, you can imagine our delight when we heard she was going to make some wines from Jura.
This Côte du Jura is the most recent addition to Jane’s portfolio, the fruits comes from a biodynamically run vineyard in Arbois. The average age of the vines is 60 years.
The wine has been made and aged in the Jura. It's been fermented and aged partly in stainless steel and in a 500L one-year-old oak barrel. Indigenous yeast and only sulphured lightly prior to bottling in February.
Jane made only 2,000 bottles of it in 2018.
"My thoughts when approaching a Jura Chardonnay from Jane Eyre could certainly be paraphrased as 'Well, That's Freaky'. A white wine, from the Jura, produced by the Princess of Pinot herself?! And I thought that she wanted to make a Savagnin there, not Chardonnay. But don’t be fooled, this is Jurassic with a twist of Jane's signature deftness of touch. There's plenty going on here, with a definite fresh walnut and almond nose leading to a juicy palate which offers quite a lean citric note with a food-friendly hit of ginger so typical of Jura whites. Very engaging indeed." Nathan Hill, Co-Founder
