Italian Summer - Jazz FM Mixed Case (6)
With many of us staying at home this August, we’ve brought the best of Italy to your doorstep with this fabulous Italian Summer mixed case. Here you’ll discover bella Italia through six lovely wines. From bright, brilliant Barbera to warm, Mediterranean Maremmante, with a few surprises in between, we’ve picked out three reds and three whites to entertain your taste buds this summer.
Rosade Furlane Pinot Grigio, 2018: The Rosade Furlane winery is based in the Veneto, in a cool sub-Alpine region well suited to crisp, aromatic but uncomplicated whites. This wine is a crisp and aromatic, it goes best with shellfish vegetarian meals, mushrooms, and as an aperitif.
Castello di Torre Elephas Bianco, 2019: This crisp, dry white from Lazio near Rome comes from cellars carved out of stone over 500 years ago. The elephant on the label signifies the fossils found in the vineyard which is by a Roman road. It’s redolent of citrus, almonds and white peaches on the nose, with a bright, attractive and savoury palate with a hint of salinity that makes it perfect with salads, fish and soft cheeses.
Antonelli Baiocco Umbria Grechetto, 2018: Straw yellow in colour. Opens with elegance to the nose: fresh, fruity and floral with notes of citrus, peach, almond and hawthorn blossom. Taste has good structure and is pleasantly fresh. Seafood appetisers, salami, fresh cheeses and first courses. Excellent with pulse and cereal soups, savoury pies and fish based dishes.
Volpi Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC, 2018: "The 2018 Volpi Montepulciano d’Abruzzo is sister wine to the Grillo and likewise organic and vegan. Produced in Abruzzo, it’s a classic of its type, disarmingly succulent with plenty of rich, dark fruit, decent tannins and a fine savoury finish. Un-oaked, it’s a wine to enjoy in its youth, right here, right now." Jonathan Ray, The Spectator Magazine
Villa Sparina Montej Rosso DOC, 2018: This is exactly what you’d expect from a Barbera - crisp, bright, vivacious, with delicious bright cherry and blackberry fruit flavours. Great with simple pastas and charcuterie.
Poggio Argentiera, Maremmante Rosso, 2019: Maremmante is a typically Mediterranean blend with aromas of herbs, liquorice, blackfruit, and spices. A warm wine, just like its territory, the Maremma. Ready to drink young, it can age 3-4 years
