Krug Grande Cuvée Edition 167
- Champagne, France
Krug Grande Cuvée is at the heart of the House of Krug: it is its raison d’être. Since 1843, Krug Grande Cuvée has embodied the utmost in excellence that Joseph Krug, the founder of the House of Krug, sought to give his clients, a Champagne of extreme generosity and absolute elegance, the very best every year.
"Every glass of Krug Grande Cuvée is the fruit of many years of craft and patience.[...] Every year, we recreate from scratch the multitude of facets that form perfect harmony on the palate, no flavour dominating or competing with another; this is the main characteristic of Krug Grande Cuvée. Its myriad aromas make Krug Grande Cuvée the richest of them all. Its true generosity means that everyone can find something in it that stirs their emotions." Eric Lebel, Chef de Caves, Krug
"Making its debut this year is Krug's NV Grande Cuvée 167ème Édition, a beautiful wine that wafts from the glass with aromas of yellow orchard fruit, peach and waxy citrus rind, complemented by complex notes of freshly baked bread, walnuts and smoke. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and muscular but incisive, with a deep and concentrated core, a pinpoint mousse and a long, complex finish. Built around the 2011 vintage, the wine includes reserve wines dating back to 1995 and was disgorged in the winter of 2017-2018. Readers are advised to give it at least a couple years of bottle age before popping corks." 95+ pts, William Kelley, Wine Advocate
"This is the wine reaching the market now. A blend of 191 different wines.
Definitely richer than many Grandes Cuvées. Very appealing and approachable. Those many elements are already admirably well integrated. Hugely complex but still quite substantially chewy on the end. Very long." 18.5, Jancis Robinson
