Krug Vertical Case, ed 162 to 167
- Champagne, France
Krug Grande Cuvée is born from the dream of one man, Joseph Krug, to craft the very best Champagne he could offer, every single year, regardless of annual variations in climate. Since 1843, the House of Krug has honoured this vision with each new Édition of Krug Grande Cuvée: the most generous expression of Champagne.
A stay of around seven years in Krug’s cellars gives Krug Grande Cuvée its distinct expression and elegance.
Krug Grande Cuvée 162ème Édition was composed around the harvest of 2006. The year's summer was defined by sharp contrast, with a heatwave punctuated by storms and even hail. The end of the season was fine and bright, with grapes expressing good maturity.
Krug Grande Cuvée 163ème Édition was composed around the harvest of 2007, an unpredictable year of such extremes that it pushed Cellar Master Eric Lebel to rethink everything he thought he knew.
Krug Grande Cuvée 164ème Édition was composed around the harvest of 2008, a year of extremes that defied all predictions.
Krug Grande Cuvée 165ème Édition was composed around the harvest of 2009, a year with a frosty start, a wonderfully mild spring and an auspicious growing season.
Krug Grande Cuvée 166ème Édition was composed around the harvest of 2010, a year defined by its tumultuous climate. The year’s Chardonnays did not express their usual freshness, a characteristic which Krug’s Cellar Master Eric Lebel counterbalanced with the remarkable vivacity of the year’s Meuniers.
Krug Grande Cuvée 167ème Édition was composed around the harvest of 2011, an atypical year divided into two parts. High temperatures up until the beginning of May resulted in blossoms three weeks early, followed by cold, wet weather with low sun.
"A light golden colour and fine, vivacious bubbles, holding a promise of pleasure. Aromas of flowers in bloom, ripe, dried and citrus fruits, as well as marzipan and gingerbread. Flavours of hazelnut, nougat, barley sugar, jellied and citrus fruits, almonds, brioche and honey."
