Introduced to us at Vinitaly 2006, the wines from La Giaretta have rapidly established themselves as among the most popular of our portfolio. Husband and wife team, wonderfully - though confusingly - called Francesco and Francesca, run the estate located in Valgatara, a small hill town that lies in the heart of the classic Valpolicella region. They produce the lot from the lighter dryer Valpolicella to its sturdier brother Amarone della Valpolicella, which are the two most important red wines in the Veneto, all the way to the sweet Recioto (amazing match with Chocolate by the way) For several generations, the winery has produced and bottled wine obtained exclusively from grapes grown on the estate including the Valpolicella, the Ripasso and the Amarone.
What to drink with... Chèvre/Goats Cheese. The classic pairing for Chèvre and Goats Cheese is a French Sauvignon Blanc from the Loire, yet we’re adventurous souls here at Honest Grapes and we can find pleasure with Old World Riesling from Germany, New World Torrontés from Argentina, Semillon blended with Sauvignon Blanc, and of course a straight Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand. For the very daring, a shot of Grappa works too.
If you have a platter of cheeses, pick the Riesling or a bottle of Champagne.
