Introduced to us at Vinitaly 2006, the wines from La Giaretta have rapidly established themselves as among the most popular of our portfolio. Husband and wife team, wonderfully - though confusingly - called Francesco and Francesca, run the estate located in Valgatara, a small hill town that lies in the heart of the classic Valpolicella region. They produce the lot from the lighter dryer Valpolicella to its sturdier brother Amarone della Valpolicella, which are the two most important red wines in the Veneto, all the way to the sweet Recioto (amazing match with Chocolate by the way) For several generations, the winery has produced and bottled wine obtained exclusively from grapes grown on the estate including the Valpolicella, the Ripasso and the Amarone.

What to drink with... mature Cheddar.

Cheddar cheese is made all over the world as the poor old Somerset village wasn’t able to get a protected designation of origin for its cheese.

A Chardonnay will really hit the spot whether it’s from Burgundy or Chile or Champagne – the bubbles will cleanse your palate between mouthfuls. If you fancy something smooooth, then try our Chilean Merlot, our Italian pseudo Amarone, Nebbiolo or Villa Gresti, our claret from St Emilion. Stronger alternatives would be our Malvasia, Sherry or even Vodka.
