La Rioja Alta Vina Ardanza Reserva
2015 is regarded as a very fine vintage for Rioja. The weather was as close to perfect as the winery could have wanted, and the official Rioja DOC board have recognised it as a “Very Good” vintage. The 2015 was not awarded the status of Seleccion Especial (unlike the 2010 vintage) as the winery do not want to over use this classification, but the 2015 is certainly on a par with the 2010. Ardanza has always been a wine trade favourite, offering almost incomparable value for money for immediate drinking or cellaring. James Suckling has even rated the 2015 Ardanza Reserva the same as the 2010 edition such is the quality on show.
A rich nose of raspberry, crushed strawberry, blueberry, coconut, cedar and sweet spice. It’s medium-to full-bodied with fine tannins and fresh acidity. Creamy, balanced and layered with vibrant, spicy character. Long and polished. Drink or hold. 96 pts, James Suckling
"Deep magenta. An intensely perfumed bouquet evokes ripe black raspberry, cherry cola, potpourri, tobacco and exotic spices, plus a smoky mineral flourish. Sweet and broad in the mouth, offering lush red and blue fruit, spicecake, mocha and coconut flavors that firm up on the back half. Finishes extremely long and spicy, with resonating florality, gently chewy tannins and lingering oak spice notes." 94 pts, Josh Reynolds, Vinous
"One of two vintages of Ardanza that are currently on the market, the 2015 is a cuvée of Tempranillo from Fuenmayor and Cenicero and 20% Garnacha from high altitude Tudelilla in the Rioja Oriental. Savoury and aromatic, with a slight animal note, this has raspberry and wild strawberry fruit, scented oak and sweet baking spices. 2021-27" 94 pts, Tim Atkin
