Jonathan Maltus started in Saint Emilion in 1994 with a small vineyard - Château Teyssier, which he has added to over the years, so that he now has 50 hectares under vines. He was early and significant in the garagiste movement with the introduction of Le Dôme in 1996, a remarkable expression of Cabernet Franc that Robert Parker frequently rates in the top 90’s, including scores of 99 and 100 points for 2009 and 2010. Meanwhile, his last single vineyard release - Vieux Château Mazerat (VCM) in 2008 was, alongside Cheval Blanc and Ausone, the only Saint Emilion to be awarded five stars from Decanter. As Will Lyons of The Wall Street Journal and the Sunday Times commented ‘What Jonathan has achieved in Bordeaux is nothing short of remarkable’.

The Le Dôme Single Vineyard is situated in close proximity to Château Angelus, Premier Grand Cru Classé. Its origins have their roots in the ‘garage’ movement of the 1990’s. It is one of the three Saint Emilion Grand Crus that outgrew the movement to go on to challenge the ‘Cru Classés’ each year.

What the critics say:

97/100Jeb Dunnuck

"As with the Vieux Château Mazerat, the 2020 Le Dôme comes from a single vineyard located on the hillsides outside of Saint-Emilion, not far from Angélus. Almost all Cabernet Franc, it has a beautiful perfume of blue fruits, smoked tobacco, violets, candied orange zest, and Asian spices. Full-bodied, ripe, sexy, and straight-up exotic, it has the balance as well as ripe tannins to benefit from 4-6 years of bottle age and evolve gracefully over the following two decades."

95/100James Suckling

"Notes of plums and blueberries with pine cones, sweet spices, violets and asphalt. Full-bodied with firm but very fine tannins that continue to expand throughout the palate. Shows tension and liveliness to its blue-fruited character. Lingering, polished finish with notes of crushed stones. Drink from 2026."
