The Chardonnay Grape

The Chardonnay Grape
Dom Thierry Ruinart was an intuitive, visionary, hardworking, and modest Benedictine monk who lived from 1657-1709. While in Paris, he was exposed to a more worldly life and in-particular to a new “wine with bubbles”. He passed on this revelation to his nephew Nicolas, who twenty years after the death of Dom Ruinart founded the first Champagne House, Maison Ruinart, and forever ingrained his uncle's name and the house in the history books.

Today Ruinart is owned by the parent company LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton SA.

Chardonnay

Chardonnay is the most planted, and most diverse of the white grape varietals. It has a keen affinity with oak producing some of the richest and finest wines in places like Burgundy and California.

Unoaked, it produces the steely mineral wines of Chablis, and also plays a huge role in the production of sparkling wines.
