Wines in bond (IB) have not yet had the Duty and VAT paid on them. They must be stored in a bonded warehouse approved by HM Customs & Excise. Most of our Fine Wines are available for purchase under bond as they often need to be laid down to allow them to mature. Many clients choose therefore to store them in our bonded warehouse under a personal account and pay the tax as and when they wish to get the wines delivered. Continue reading

  3. Burgundy 2017: The Vivacity Vintage

2017 is a vintage of elegant, perfumed wines with fresh, vivacious, pretty fruit. This is a perfect vintage for new collectors and value-hunters (or what passes for value in Burgundy), with wines overperforming at village and lieu dit level. What do we mean when we talk about selling wine En Primeur? En Primeur is a system that both merchants and vineyards rely on as a sort of futures market for wines that need time in the cellar. En Primeur (EP) refers to the process of buying wines before they are bottled and released onto the market. Continue reading

  6. Ice Cubes in Wine? Surely a big no, no right?

  8. Organic vs. Biodynamic

Organic vs. Biodynamic Wine: Organic wine is not a new concept. People have been making wine organically for thousands of years. Organic viticulture was a way of explaining the alternative to modern farming practises. Organic wines are produced in the absence of pesticides, herbicides, fungicides and synthetic fertilisers and use plant and mineral products to combat pests and disease. A problem is that the USA and Europe have different definitions of organic... Continue reading
