Bordeaux 2015: our selection and reviews

2009 was the last Bordeaux en primeur campaign I really got behind, but subsequent pricing and/or vintage quality has meant it's been difficult to be as enthusiastic about all but a handful of more recent releases. Further below is our "Bordeaux Select" chateau list - which we will update with prices as soon as they are released.
Style
The best wines on the Left Bank, especially in the southerly appellations, and in Saint Emilion and to a slightly lesser extent Pomerol, have made wines to rival and sometimes exceed the quality and expansive character of 2009 with the benefit of greater freshness and vivacity. These are also more charming wines than 2005 and 2010 - with generally softer tannins, lower pH and more lively aromatics.
Selection
A number of Saint Emilion producers have made their best ever wines, and some from Margaux and Pessac come very close to rivalling their top vintages. Like our approach to the recent Burgundy 2014 campaign, we have chosen to focus on specific estates that we think are the top performers from 2015.
However please do let us know if there are other chateaux of personal interest as we are happy to source those from our negociant friends too.
Allocations
The top chateaux are all saying they intend to release less wine en primeur (taking a leaf out of Latour's book - who withdrew entirely from EP). Given how well-britched the majority are, and no shortage of Chinese buyers to snap up those who aren't, there is probably some truth in this.
Pricing
With 10% euro-swing since 2014 campaign and everyone imagining a 20% price hike on 2014 for the better performing wines, 2015 is not going to be a bargain. However if they are around the current 2009 and 2010 market prices, there seems a good argument to buy on release.
An early indication of interest would better to enable us to secure the wines you want so do let us know your hitlist as soon as possible (there is no obligation to confirm until the prices come out but please be aware that allocations will sell out very quickly once they do!). NB - to show it's not just us hyping the vintage, I have included recent scores from Wine Enthusiast, Tim Atkin and James Suckling.
