Press Release: Wine Club Honest Grapes Accelerates Growth
This month sees luxury Wine Club Honest Grapes, celebrate its 5th anniversary.
Honest Grapes was launched in September 2014 by wine commentator and consultant Tom Harrow and prolific tech investor Nathan Hill. Hill comments ‘After five years, we’re in a good place; loved by our club members, growing at 50% year on year despite the current political and economic turbulence and we even declared our maiden profit in the year just past’.
As the company continues to grow organically Hill makes it clear that Honest Grapes is looking for strategic partnership opportunities within the wine trade to further grow the business including making acquisitions to achieve that growth.
Hill is no stranger to investment. He established technology commercialisation firm Qi3 in 1999, and angel investment syndicate Qi3 Ventures in 2010, with investments in over 30 businesses. He is also a member of Cambridge Angels and London Business Angels. Hill comments ‘as a tech guy now working in the wine sector it’s clear that we can offer an ever-better club for high net worth wine lovers through strategic partnerships and acquisitions. After 5 years hard work, it’s clear to us that we’ve developed a club proposition that is highly attractive to our members and ready to scale. Combining the love of wine, passion for our members and managing a sensible business is a science as well as an art’.
Honest Grapes provides selected artisan wines for collecting and drinking with a team of Wine Gurus on hand to advise members and customers. Hill and Harrow have thought outside the box to entice and retain their customer base. Alongside offering an ever-changing hand selected group of wines online, they also offer en-primeur wines and cellar planning. Furthermore, they have been innovative with the creation of a crowdfunded exclusive single vineyard Grand Cru Saint Emilion wine. In collaboration with 100-point winemaker Jonathan Maltus, Hill and Harrow launched the maiden vintage of Chateau Pontet Labrie in 2015. The exceptional Merlot/Cabernet Franc is available exclusively through Honest Grapes as part of a three-year £8,000 club membership to Club Pontet Labrie. Spotting another gap in the market Honest Grapes also offer kosher versions of Pontet Labrie and other wines.
Honest Grapes has won several awards over the last few years, including the Independent’s Indybest Online Wine Shop and the Drink’s Business Green Retailer of the Year. Just last month Honest Grapes was shortlisted for three categories in the Decanter Retail Awards 2019 – Subscription Wine Club of the Year, Online Retailer of the Year, and Innovator of the Year.
