Wine of the Week: Castello della Rosa's Medal Winning Pair

This week's featured wine is actually a pair: a perfectly mature, medal winning twosome from the extraordinary Castello della Rosa. Made in the Orion family vineyards in the Northern Italian Province of Trentino, and only in the finest vintages these wines offer superb value, bottle age, and quality.
Our wine consultant James describes how these wines show
"a beautiful amount of age".
Castello della Rosa ‘Bianco’ 2010
While the aromatic blend of Muller (85%) and Reisling (15%) when it was young was a lovely aperitif, with time the wine has developed the extra weight needed to become an amazing food wine with lots of stone fruits, citrus and – think chicken with tarragon and lemon, or mushrooms. Even veal sausage or spiced sausage pasta, and strong soft cheese.
Silver Medal at the Decanter Awards: "Fantastic aperitif style with great fruit definition and lovely, fine aromas, extremely fresh and mineral with medicinal hints."
Castello della Rosa ‘Rosso’ 2009
The Rosso blend’s fruit has softened beautifully with developed red Cabernet Sauvingon flavours married with ripe juicy Merlot and a touch of the often unseen Lagrein grape (a native of Trentino and one that hugely benefits from the wine’s 12 months in barrel). It is a perfect match for a variety of foods from rich pasta sauces, roast and grilled meat, strong cheese and of course a variety of game.
Bronze Medal at the Decanter Awards:
"Full, dark berry nose leading to good fruit intensity and mellow sweetness."
Mixed Case
The Castello della Rosa's Medal Winning Pair Mixed case contains three bottles of each wine.
Please note: as both wines were initially produced in small quantities, and are previous award winners, only limited stock is still available.
