Vette di San Leonardo, 2015
'Vette di San Leonardo owes its name to the imposing mountain peaks which surround our vineyards. Its character reflects the youthful freshness and mineral complexity of this mountain terroir' (San Leonardo)
This shows wonderfully cool, lovely mountainous fruit, as the nostrils are assailed by mountainous flowers, herbs and the orchard fruits of the lower slopes. Lees-stirring but no oak-ageing ensures a richer yet still focussed mid-palate with capsicum and sage notes complementing the crisp fruit. This is a must try for lovers of classy Sauvignon Blanc.
Ochota Barrels The Fugazi Vineyard Grenache, 2014
Taras and Amber Ochota make premium single vineyard blends from sites in different parts of South Australia. Fugazi is made from a parcel of old vine Grenache and is named after an American Punk band.
This is something special, shows the elegant side of Grenache, lots of perfumed cherries, chocolaty tannins, but bight acidity. 70% of the grapes are fermented as whole bunches so there are some herbaceous woody hints after 82 days sitting on the skins and yet the wine avoids heaviness and over extraction as well as maintaining a natural acidity to balance the sweetness. Some wood smoke and cloves, hints of balsa and anise complete the package - truly compelling.
Selection Laurence Feraud Cotes du Rhone, 2011
The star red from a panel tasting with our Premier Crew and no wonder. Despite its humble price and appellation this is from predominantly old vine Grenache rafted by the illustrious hands of Laurence Feraud herself - the owner of the famous Domaine Pegau in neighbouring Chateauneuf du Pape. With elegant savoury tone on the nose, and similar herbal taste, with fruit very much in the background.

This week's recipe:
Slow cooked Sicilian lamb
Take an entire leg of lamb, stud it with garlic & rosemary, then throw on anchovies, capers or olives (anything salty will do) with lots of tomatoes. This is absolutely fantastic with Grenache.
Franciacorta's Finest, 97 points, and an exclusive UK preview.
Ca del Bosco Cuvee Annamaria Clementi Brut 2006
£378/6 IB - Drink: Now - 2028+
97 points Decanter
'Clearly one of the great sparkling wines of the world' 96 points, James Suckling
Fully organic, Annamaria Clementi, named for Mauizio's mother, is 55% Chardonnay, 25% Pinot Bianco and 20% Pinot Nero from twenty-five vineyards whose vines are an average of thirty years old. After harvest, the grapes are first cleaned in a unique 'berry spa' removing 30% of the sulphites then barrel-fermented and ages in oak (like Krug), being left on their lees for 8 years and 3 months (slightly longer than Dom Perignon). The dosage is only 1.0 grams of sugar per litre, ensuring impeccable dryness to balance the extraordinary richness and depth of flavour the wines achieves.

The Grenache Grape...
Grenaches are wonderful party wines at the lower end, this is because when you're not sure what people like e.g. Whether they like very light or very heavy wines, Grenache tends to sit very comfortably in the middle with nice bright fruit, soft tannins and very gluggable. It really is absolutely delicious and a great crowd pleaser.
