Young owner, Lucia Romero’s vision is to produce wines with a view to the future, rooted in the past. ‘Porvenir’ means ‘the future’ and, situated in the Cafayate area of the Andean Salta region, these wines are produced from amongst the highest vines in the world, 1,750 metres above sea level.

El Porvenir de Cafayate

A weighty version of Argentina's favourite white wine, made in the northern province of Salta. This wine shows elegance and structure beyond the dilute elderflower cordial of supermarket Torrontés. The high altitude means extreme temperature swings between night and day, which keeps the aromas and acidity of the grapes absolutely fresh. The result is a perfect Torrontés, clean and without a hint of oak.

This is a great party or apéritif wine, it’s also a traditional accompaniment to the little pasties called empanadas. These are filled with minced beef, chicken or cheese and downed with a few glasses of this glorious white and fragrant wine.

I love an aromatic white, so I was looking forward to this Torrontes. I was pleased and surprised not only bu the lush, floral quality but by a freshness that reminded me of clean, dried laundry. In a very very good way.

El Porvenir de Cafayate

In 2000 the Romero-Marcuzzi family purchased an additional vineyard with a view to creating a premium winery producing small amounts of high quality wines. The old vineyard was brought up to date with heavy investment in both technology and infrastructure, whilst restoring the 50 year-old Torrontés and Tannat vineyards. Porvenir means the future or what is to come. The estate is in the Cafayate area of the Andean region: the highest fine wines in the world. The Laborum range of wines comes from the Latin “from work” and the care and attention given to these wines by Lucia Romero-Marcuzzi and her team is obvious.
