Bodega Chacra was created back in 2003 when Piero Incisa della Rochetta, the grandson of the Marchese Mario Incisa della Rocchetta tasted a wine from the region in a New York restaurant and instantly saw the full potential.
Does the Incisa dell Rochetta name ring a bell? Hopefully, as Piero’s grandfather is the founder of Tenuta San Guido; and creator of Sassicaia. Winemaking is truly in his blood. The estate originally consisted of a single plot, planted way back in 1932, which had been simply abandoned. Other sites soon followed, which were both seriously old vines too and needless to say, some serious work was needed to bring the winery to its current run of form.
The whites are made in partnership with Jean-Marc Roulot of Meursault fame, and are planted on a limestone rich plots, much like the finest vineyards of the Cotes d’Or, giving the wines a real mineral streak. Aged predominantly in French oak but also clay amphorae, concrete egg and stainless steel, these have more than a touch of Roulot purity and finesse to them.
What the critics say:
"This is probably the finest answer to Puligny or Meursault in Argentina and it will be hard to pass by. Beautiful brioche notes give a fine creaminess with mineral, fine reduction, beeswax and a hint of white sesame to the lemon curd. Extremely textured and tense on the palate with fresh, medium acidity and a long, long finish. This is all about texture and purity. Also intellectual. Drink or hold. From biodynamically grown grapes."
