Lorenza and Marco Pallanti of Castello di Ama have been crafting wines in Tuscany since the 1970s, centered around the hamlet of Ama, which sits at an elevation of 450-550 meters. Their wines are celebrated for their elegance and freshness, combined with natural intensity and depth. As Galloni observes, Castello di Ama has "crafted some of the most riveting wines in Tuscany... simply put, there are few estates in Italy at this level."

Pioneering in their approach, the Pallantis introduced temperature-controlled vats decades ago, enabling vinification by individual plots— a practice that many in Bordeaux have only recently adopted.

Vigneto la Casuccia is the pinnacle of their dedication, the result of years of relentless effort, experimentation, and a steadfast commitment to quality. Made from 80% Sangiovese and 20% Merlot, it is sourced from three distinct plots known for their exceptional quality.

Drinking window: 2027 - 2046

What the critics say:

98/100Antonio Galloni, Vinous

"The 2021 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto La Casuccia is one of the most open and expressive wines in this range-a wine that hints at the greatness of the year. Crushed rose petal, blood orange, mint, spice, new leather and cedar all saturate the palate. Silky tannins wrap it all together. Sensual and deep, the Casuccia is both immensely pleasurable and very serious. What a wine."

97/100James Suckling

"The dark blue fruit is exciting, with blackcurrants, black cherries, raspberries, dark mushrooms and pine cones on both the nose and palate. It’s medium-bodied with fine and tight tannins that give this tension and structure. It’s rather shy now and will need three or four years to show its true self. Try after 2027."

OUR GROWERS

Castello di Ama

Castello di Ama's origins trace back to Etruscan times, a testament to the enduring connection between this land and human creativity. Ama was owned by the Firidolfi family during the Holy Roman Empire. The medieval castle that once graced these grounds fell during the Aragonese invasions in the 15th century. In the early 1700s, new villas rose from the same stones, marking the birth of the Castello di Ama estate.
