Likened to Armand Rousseau by Neal Martin and one to watch, rising star Xavier Horiot's reclamation of Domaine Launay Horiot must be one of the most remarkable stories in the Côte d’Or. These are absolutely up there with the best red Burgundies being produced in Pommard and Chambertin.

From a tiny 0.16ha parcel located next to the vines of Lalou Bize-Leroy (!!), this is a serious, pedigreed Chambertin that expresses the terroir beautifully. The only downside is the tiny amount produced!

What the critics say:

96-99/100Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy

"A rich purple in colour. The bouquet does not deliver much as yet but the fruit is so seductive at the front of the palate, though still very unresolved further back with fresher tannins which still need time to integrate. I expect the 2022 Chambertin to have excellent keeping qualities. Drink from 2035-2045+. Tasted: November 2023."

96/100Christy Canterbury MW, Tim Atkin

"Starting with spice cake and warm phyllo dough, the palate moves into cassis, medicinal herbs and graphite. Focused if a touch backward at the moment, the concentration is immense and the extract is notable. Rippled, muscular tannins and vigorous acidity give this good bite. This tiny slice of 16 ares sits next to Lalou Bize-Leroy's vines."

94-96/100Neal Martin, Vinous

"The 2022 Chambertin Grand Cru, matured entirely in new oak, is very pure on the nose with blackcurrant, wild strawberry, iodine and hints of blood orange, giving away the warmth of that summer. The palate has chiseled tannins - very finely sculpted in this Chambertin - tensile with an overtly briny, saline finish that gets the saliva flowing. It will require several years in bottle - not a Chambertin that will kowtow to consumer demands for "immediacy" in their Burgundy wines, and there's nothing wrong with that. Superb."
