The revival of the historic House Delaunay has been met with consistent acclaim with Laurent at the helm and Christophie Briotet in the winery (who has been IWC red winemaker of the year in 2020 & 2022 and white in 2021).

The wines have been highly praised by critics, Club Members and the Honest Grapes team, and the portfolio encompasses everything from humble Aligote to Chambertin Grand Cru. With their commitment to excellence and remarkable vineyard sources, House Delaunay has regained its prominence in the world of Burgundy wines.

Features as one of the Top 15 Négociants & Cooperatives in Tim Atkin's Burgundy 2022 Special Report.

“From 2 barrels, with under half being Mazoyeres, this Charmes Chambertin is redolent of Mazoyères complexity. It features an intensity of damson fruit and garrigue, offering plush, intense fruit with endless length and suppleness.”
Nathan Hill, Honest Grapes

What the critics say:

17+/20Jancis Robinson

"Mid ruby. Rich intense and savoury. Ripe red berries, red cherries and cassis. Really quite powerful, rich and more muscular than many other Charmes. Quite full-bodied, with ripe, powerful tannins bolstering the finish. (MH)"

93-96/100Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy

"Fine mid purple. Two barrels, two producers, some Mazoyères mixed in. 100% new wood, grains fins. This also is pretty massive, though that perhaps hides the character of Charmes whereas it supports Clos Vougeot. Still, it is important to defend a little more extraction at a time when too many feet are being taken too far off the pedal. There is a light and unimportant toasty reduction, plus some of the sweet Charmes strawberry fruit, then a crunchy mineral note to the finish. A little bit dissociated at the moment but scored for its definite potential. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted: November 2023."

95/100Christy Canterbury MW, Tim Atkin

"This is truly on an artisanal scale as less than one 228-L barrel is made. The fruit comes from low-yielding 80-year-old vines, too. Entirely destemmed, the fruit purity is impeccable. Blueberries and baked raspberries sing on the nose. The new oak—light toast here—is deftly integrated and far less showy than on most of the other reds. The vibrant but smooth structure gives this very good freshness and that classic Charmes approachability."

Edouard Delaunay

Like a phoenix from the ashes, the story of House Delaunay's revival attracted considerable attention and excitement back in 2017. We were confident that the House would live up to the hype, but they have even exceeded our wildest expectations.
