The Château Rieussec 2019 is a distinguished Sauternes from one of the most renowned producers in Bordeaux. This vintage continues the estate's tradition of crafting rich, opulent dessert wines that showcase the unique terroir of the Sauternes appellation.
In the glass, it displays a deep golden colour, indicative of its concentration and richness. The nose is complex and aromatic, offering a bouquet of ripe tropical fruits like pineapple and mango, along with notes of apricot, peach, and orange marmalade. These fruit aromas are beautifully complemented by layers of honey, almond, and subtle floral notes, with a touch of spice and vanilla from its oak aging.
On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and luscious, with a velvety texture that coats the mouth. The sweetness is balanced by a vibrant acidity, which brings freshness and prevents the wine from feeling too heavy. The flavours are rich and multi-layered, mirroring the nose with dominant notes of candied citrus, honeyed fruits, and a hint of ginger. The finish is long and persistent, with a lingering note of sweet spice and a refined minerality.
Drinking window: 2025 - 2055
What the critics say:
"My first taste of Rieussec in the new, controversial bottle. I liked the wine more than the bottle. The nose explodes with honeysuckle, spice, honeyed tropical fruits, white peaches, candied tangerines, and pineapples. Stylistically, the wine is perched in the middle of opulent, sweet, and fresh, with a long, layered, luscious, sweet, fruit, spice, and honeyed finish. Drink from 2024-2055."
"Pale lemon-gold in color, the 2019 Rieussec flaunts a delicately scented nose of fresh grapefruit, lemon curd, lime leaves and clover honey with wafts of jasmine, white truffles and nutmeg. The palate slowly builds, revealing layers of apple and citrus fruits with loads of savory accents, framed by refreshing acidity and a seductively oily texture, finishing on a lingering honey-nut note."
