Domaine des Lambrays is one of the most historic in the entire region with written reference to the Clos des Lambrays in 1365.

Since the takeover by LVMH in 2014, huge investment has poured in, culminating in the latest epoch for this winery on the completion of their new cuverie which was finished in 2020. This is a hugely important moment. The estate knew it had many different terroirs even within the Clos des Lambrays itself, yet with massive vats, they could only do so much. The fruit was picked and vinified together. Now, Clos des Lambrays is produced from no less than 11 plots – each picked at absolute optimal ripeness and vinified separately and the results are clear to see and taste; since 2020 Neal Martin has awarded a potential 97 points, then 98 in 2021 and now 98 again 2022. Demand is causing the price of Clos des Lambrays to position upwards but only 5 Burgundies from 2022 score higher from Martin…including la Tâche, La Romanée Conti, and Chambertin Clos de Beze from Rousseau – which are between 10x to 35x more expensive!

"Tasting in the cellars with winemaker Jacques Devauges back in November was a revelation, the wines embodying the paradox of the vintage – being hot year yet showing impeccable balance, poise and vivacity. Their respective terroirs really shine through displaying very attractive floral notes alongside well-modulated red and black fruits. The structure and tannins were silky smooth in most cases and just pure joy to taste, so I have really been looking forward to sharing an allocation."

What the critics say:

98-99/100Sarah Marsh MW, World of Fine Wine

"I work with a parcel approach, with different farming, winemaking, and aging, but at the end, everything is included. It is a total expression. It is an undulating vineyard, with such diversity. We divide it into 11 different parcels now.” The wine I tried was a proper representation of all the parcels, which will come together next spring. Pure, red-fruit and floral aroma. Super-silky and elegant. A streamlined, fine-textured palate. Beautifully woven. It glimmers. Delicate and precise, with lovely, long persistence. Just a breath of mint at the end shows the whole-bunch. Delicately done. It is the best Lambrays I have tasted. 2028–40."

96-98/100Neal Martin, Vinous

"The 2022 Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru is a blend of 11 different cuvées and includes, for the first time, the plot of “30 Rangs”. This vintage includes 80% whole bunches, and like La Richmoine, it is deftly subsumed on the nose, which blossoms with vivacious red berry fruit, forest floor, white truffle, and light autumn leaf scents. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, a svelte Clos des Lambrays with a slightly chalky, mineral-rich finish. Very tender and complex, this is undoubtedly a great wine with a long-term future."

96-98/100Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy

"The 2022 Clos des Lambrays contains 80% whole bunches (100% in the very old vines, a lower proportion elsewhere). A fine even deep ruby purple. The bouquet is backward with still a suggested intensity of fruit that can easily cope with the stems. Beautifully suave with an enveloping dark red fruit, a very graceful finish on silky, refined tannins, and we don’t often say silky for Morey St Denis. They are caressing, according to Jacques. The floral touch works throughout, beautifully long and sensual. Drink from 2032-2042+. Tasted: November 2023."
