Domaine de Montille is one of Burgundy’s most revered estates and this burgeoning family property is very much at the top of its game, producing wines of exceptional quality: scintillating, proper Burgundies, unusually across both reds and whites.

Features as one of the Top 10 Côte de Beaune Red Wine Producers and Top 10 Côte de Beaune White Wine Producers in Tim Atkin's Burgundy 2022 Special Report.

Self-confessed ‘acid freak’ Brian Sieve was especially careful with battonage and lees-stirring of the Chardonnays in 2022, to maintain freshness and verve, noting that it was not a high acid vintage. A little less new oak (not that there is ever more than just enough) and whole bunches in the reds than in the previous solar vintages, plus the gentler acid profile means the wines have a charm and immediacy to rival any vintage we’ve tasted from the domaine.

“Taut and focussed nose, raspberry and blueberry sorbet, with rose petal and eastern spices. More savoury and stony on the vibrant palate, high-toned for Corton, continues the theme of elegance and precision in the vintage. The finish is lengthy and well directed.”
Tom Harrow, Head Wine Guru

What the critics say:

93-96/100Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy

"One third whole bunch vinification. Deep crimson purple. I am not getting the bouquet as yet. Sound with some muscle. Brian wants to make it silkier. Some blood orange in the fruit. Still quite stern but the length is there, and I am confident that this will blossom into a fine Clos Vougeot. Drink from 2032-2040+. Tasted: October 2023. ****"

93-95/100Neal Martin, Vinous

"The 2022 Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru, 90% whole clusters that went through malo in June, has an expressive bouquet with redcurrant, black cherries, touches of damp forest floor and black pepper. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins and bright black fruit, very well balanced with a crunchy texture. There's impressive salinity on the finish that lingers in the mouth. Classic in style, this is an excellent Corton Clos du Roi."

94/100Christy Canterbury MW, Tim Atkin

"This finished its malo in July, but there is still some peppy gas in October. All the better to keep that freshness, even if the palate nonetheless feels a bit linear and firm now. Perky red plums, red currants, crushed flint and steak spices create a hedonistic bouquet. The flavors soak into the lingering finish, too."

About Domaine de Montille

Domaine de Montille is now in its ninth generation under the stewardship of sibling duo Étienne & Alix, who have largely remained true to their father’s vision of creating elegant, pure and balanced wines.

In fact Étienne was instrumental in pushing the sustainability of the Domaine by abandoning all chemical fertilisers and herbicides in 1985 and fully transitioning to biodynamic farming in 2005.
