Domaine du Clos Frantin is located at the heart of the Côte de Nuits in a beautiful 18th century estate in Nuits-Saint-Georges. Over 50% of their 7.3 hectares of vineyards are Premier and Grand Cru sites, all farmed organically since 2018. The domaine has the largest plantings of Vosne Romanée’s top Premier Cru “Les Malconsorts”, one of the first in line for elevation to Grand Cru status, yet it remains a fiftieth the cost of a bottle of neighbour La Tâche!

Neal Martin comments that Maison Bichot (owner of the domaine) can make “really quite delicious, complex wines that often surprise people in blind tastings when not swayed by the label.” We have always selected cuvées which offer comparable quality at a more attractive price than a number of big names - here you’ll find real value and drinking pleasure.

"The 2022 Echézeaux from Clos Frantin boasts profuse aromas of blackberry fruit, liquorice, and peony. The texture is silky and refined, with a ripe, sweet character to the fruit on the palate. The influence of the location of the vineyard is evident: the cooling influence of the Combe d'Orveau brings perfumed freshness to the wine, while the sandy soils of the Champs Traversins, where it is located, mean great ripeness. The wine is ageing at present in cask (70% new)."

"One of the slightly darker purple colours, with a ripe and dark edged fruit. I sense the whole bunches more here than in the Clos Vougeot. Becomes more nuanced further back on the palate, with greater energy to the fruit. I was not sure from the nose but the palate works with a good balance between the slightly riper fruit profile and the acidity. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted: October 2023."

"Hailing from Champs Traversins and its well-drained, gravelly soils, this is a taut, compact Echézeaux with crunchy red berries galore. There is a big wad of fruit in the mid-palate that is nicely focused by tangy acidity and lithe, crunchy tannins. The extended finish lets in some crushed stone minerality, too."
