Melbourne-born Jane Eyre-Renard, one of the pioneers of the growing micro-negotiant movement, has been based in Burgundy since 2003, paying her dues at some top domaines including de Montille and Comtes Lafon.

She currently makes her own wines in a facility in Bligny-le-Beaune, shared with, among others, Dominique Lafon. Her wines, whether from Beaune, Nuits, or Beaujolais, display her distinctive style - charming and inviting, with supple tannins and soft but bright fruits. Gentle extraction and judicious use of new oak means these have been among the more immediately appealing Burgundies in our portfolio.

Jane made seven barrels this year, of which one is new (so 14.3% new oak) and used 10% whole bunches Red plums and cocao, bright and lifted perfume. Spicy and salty notes on the palate, with touches of soy and tamarind joining the succulent berry compote core. A mid-weight charmer this really sums up the appeal of the vintage. Nobody who claims to enjoy Burgundy could fail to be delighted with this.

What the critics say:

17/20Jancis Robinson

"From two sought-after plots of land, Combe du Dessus just in front of the Château de Chambertin and En Champs a little further up the slope in front of the premier cru Champeaux. The vines are between 35 and 55 years old. 30% whole bunch, 17% new barrels. Light filtration. 1,600 bottles and 25 magnums made. Pretty deep crimson. Sumptuously sweet, spicy nose with lovely structure and great balance between sweetness and acidity. I'm really looking forward to the Gevrey Premier Cru Corbeaux now if it's to be better than this! There's quite a bit of fine tannin. Gosh, this is good!"

89-91/100Jasper Morris MW

"6 barrels, one new, 30% whole bunch, from En Champs and by the Château. Crisp bright purple, with generous raspberry fruit, very sound on the palate, with good energy to the back – the balance of ripe fruit and energy is to be applauded and the finish is long."

OUR GROWERS

Jane Eyre

From Aussie hairdresser to decorated, award-winning winemaker, Jane Eyre’s rise to the front rank of Burgundy has been an extraordinary story to say the least!

When we first met Jane in 2015, we were amazed to hear that her wines didn’t have a presence in the UK (with a name like Jane Eyre, how could we resist bringing her wines to the UK market?), so we're thrilled to share her gorgeous Burgundies with our winemakers
