Romain Taupenot suggested his 2022s show some of the energy and salinity of 2020 but are less concentrated with more red fruit character. They also have the charm of the 2019s, but with higher acid and greater freshness. Whilst the Corton Rognet tipped in at 13.9° the rest of the range were all between 13-13.5°. Romain is typically using 25% new oak for the village wines and 30-35% for the 1er crus.

“'Le Petit Beze' – running along the western border of Clos de Beze, under the treeline, this is another superbly positioned vineyard that tends to be slightly overlooked and thus undervalued, right up until it’s in your glass.
An exotic olfactory jamboree of redcurrant preserve, talcum powder, dried violets, and darker tarry, umami tapenade notes. Textured, silken elegance on the palate, dryly rich, but not overly concentrated, with long, chalky tannins, and good salinity on finish."
Tom Harrow, Head Wine Guru

What the critics say:

92-95/100Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy

"A royally deep crimson purple. Fresh on the nose despite being clearly properly ripe, yet the altitude gives its own freshness, and the wine is very precisely balanced right across the palate. A lovely example. Drink from 2030-2037. Tasted: November 2023."

92-94/100Neal Martin, Vinous

"The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Bel Air ler Cru has a wonderful bouquet, very pure, with Morello cherries, raspberries, wilted rose petals and orange pith. The palate is medium-bodied and lightly spiced with fine-boned tannins, fanning out discretely on the finish. Classic Burgundian Pinot Noir."

17/20Matthew Hayes, Jancis Robinson

"Cask sample. Mid ruby. Red cherries and raspberries. Sweet red fruit on the palate. Fine, fresh acidity."
