This richly textured, almost Burgundian Chardonnay from renowned New Zealand producer Kumeu River is an excellent addition to their portfolio of award-winning wines. This Single Vineyard wine from their Coddington Vineyard has a real presence – richly textured, but with refined elegance.

Expect concentrated ripe stone fruits and caramelised hazelnuts balanced by bright acidity and a crystalline minerality that nods its head to the surrounding Tasman sea. Utilising indigenous yeasts with extended lees ageing and malolactic fermentation, the Coddington Single Vineyard is a masterful expression of Chardonnay from a monumental winemaking team.

What our Wine Gurus say

"The most opulent wine in the range, the Chardonnay Coddington is a beautiful wine in 2021, with a ripe, open nose of stone fruits & citrus, alongside some subtle smoky and flinty notes. This is as delicious as always, yet the focus remains on the energy and the tension in the terrior than just the depth of the fruit."

Dylan, Wine Guru

The Kumeu River Coddington Chardonnay is beautifully paired with creamy chicken dishes, or try it with a mild Chicken Makhani for something a bit different!

What the critics say:

93/100Rebecca Gibb MW, Vinous

"Jazz hands at the ready, the Kumeu river Chardonnay Coddington is always ready to welcome you in with its full, svelte figure and no hard edges, and the 2021 is no different. However, this year there’s an additional touch of purpose that keeps it fresh and full of intention. Good depth and weight here, perhaps due to the lower crop after frost made for small yields. There’s a sense of feel, a sense of wanting to chew on the finish. Savory characters, festive spices and nutty notes, likely derived its 25% new oak and time on lees in barrel, join the restrained white stone fruit."
