Nuits-Saint-Georges Cuvée La Gerbotte Blanc, Domaine De L'Arlot, 2019

Domaine de L'Arlot is another rising star in the Cotes de Nuits, having slowly acquired some prize plots in Vosne Les Suchots & NSG, including three famous monopoles. The unsung superstar in the portfolio though is unquestionably the NSG Blanc "La Gerbotte", from fruit within the Clos de l'Arlot Monopole. Alongside the magical reds, Neal Martin implores collectors to "keep an eye on the excellent whites, especially for the La Gerbotte Blanc that should represent great value", and we've got both 2016 & 2019, with some glittering scores from Neal, including 90-92 for the 2019 ("very fine and nuanced"). This is a top NSG domaine with a reputation alongside the best names in the village, and the La Gerbotte comes highly recommended indeed.

The 2019 NSG La Gerbotte, which comes from a cool microclimate adjacent to the Clos de la Marechale, has a well-defined nose of citrus fruit infused with light gravel/concrete aromas. The palate is well balanced with a fine attack on the entry and notes of orange peel, tangerine and peach skin. It takes its foot off the accelerator toward the finish, which develops a pleasing waxy texture. Very fine and nuanced.

The 2019 Nuits-Saint-Georges Cuvée La Gerbotte opens in the glass with notes of white flowers, crisp orchard fruit, lemon and nutmeg. Medium to full-bodied, racy and incisive, its fleshy core of fruit is underpinned by tangy acidity.

Fine mid yellow colour. A slight banana note, good energy here, this is village plus. As with all the Domaine de l’Arlot whites this year, there is a thickness of texture which will be very pleasing to some. More white fruit than yellow, with good length. Tasted: October 2020

Subtle hints of petrol and wood toast set off cool and pure various white orchard fruit and discreet floral whiffs. The succulent, indeed, even opulent, medium-bodied flavors possess a highly seductive texture that carries over to the clean and very dry finale that offers slightly better depth. This delicious bitter lemon rind-inflected effort would benefit from at least a few years of cellaring. Worth a look.
