Likened to Armand Rousseau by Neal Martin and one to watch, rising star Xavier Horiot's reclamation of Domaine Launay Horiot must be one of the most remarkable stories in the Côte d’Or. These are absolutely up there with the best red Burgundies being produced in Pommard and Chambertin.

Arguably Pommard's Grand Cru site, Xavier Horiot owns a mere 0.09 hectares in Rugiens-Bas and this wine is always one of the most sought-after in the portfolio. This wine always shows its breeding, with impressive nobility and incredible structure. This is certainly one of those Rugiens-Bas where 1er cru doesn't quite do it justice.

What the critics say:

93-95/100Neal Martin, Vinous

"The 2022 Pommard Les Rugiens-Bas ler Cru, matured in 50% new oak, has a lot of concentration on the nose: blackberry, wild strawberry, crushed rock and loamy aromas. The well-balanced palate has firm grip, lovely and precise, with wonderful detail towards the finish. Tasting this wine down in Xavier Horiot1s cellar, I couldn't help thinking this is one of the best Pommard 2022s I have tasted. And it is."

92-96/100Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy

"A lively full fresh purple. The wine is at a cool temperature down here in the cellar and not showing much detail on the nose. Then a wonderful surge in the fruit, deep fresh raspberry, mature cherry, a little youthful bitterness behind. Very backward. One new barrel out of the two. There may well be even more to this wine than I am currently seeing. Drink from 2032-2040. Tasted: November 2023."
