Pym-Rae is the California project from Bordeaux legends the Tesseron family – of Pontet Canet fame. Formerly the property of the much-loved actor, Robin Williams, Pym-Rae is a 7.5 hectare vineyard nestled in a perfect corner of paradise in Mount Veeder at 550 meters altitude and is planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc vines that boast an impressive average age of 30 years – all farmed biodynamically, following the philosophy of new owners. No irrigation, no green harvests, no pruning – nature really is at one at Pym-Rae. Only 1500 cases are produced of which most never leaves the US.

The Pauillac savoir-faire in the Californian mountains is clearly evident with the quality of the wine, however the branding takes the estate to a different level – Pym-Rae comes packed in luxury, engraved wooden cases of 3 with each bottle being wax sealed in the estate’s customary colour of juniper green. Keeping the name ‘Pym-Rae’ is a fitting tribute to the Williams family – Pym and Rae being the middle names of Robin Williams’ eldest children.

What the critics say:

96/100James Suckling

"This is so aromatic, with aromas of black fruit, mushrooms, pencil shavings, bark, blackberries and orange peel. So enticing. Medium- to full-bodied with a linear and lightly dusty tannin structure that coats the mouth beautifully and leaves your palate clean and energized. Fine-textured tannins. Well done for a complicated vintage. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Very drinkable now, but structured for aging. Drink or hold."
