Torbreck was established in 1994 from the resurrection of old vines vineyards that had fallen into disrepair on selected sites in The Barossa Valley. Twenty five years later Torbreck makes 19 different cuvées to continued acclaim, sourcing fruit from a number of old, some might say ancient, dry-farmed vines in vineyards.
It will come as no surprise to anyone who has tasted them that Torbreck’s wines have been something of a tribute to the great wines of the Rhône Valley while remaining essentially Barossa.
The Cuvée Juveniles is a blend from multiple vineyards ranging up to 150 year old vines, and encapsulates all that is great in a pure, unseasoned wine. The Juveniles has a lively, vibrant aroma of blackberry, violet and spice, a full, rich mid palate with a vivacity and energy that this blend always generates.
Like all wines in the Torbreck stable, the fruit is hand harvested, then fermented in single vineyard batches, assembled in tank and allowed to complete a natural malo-lactic fermentation before being bottled without filtration or fining.
What the critics say:
"The nose is all grenache-driven raspberry and blueberry with a gently herbal edge. The palate has a plush, smooth-honed and gently pithy red-fruit core that holds a fresh, refined finish. A blend of 72% grenache, 23% mataro and 5% shiraz. Drink now. Screw cap."
