Domaine de Montille is one of Burgundy’s most revered estates and this burgeoning family property is very much at the top of its game, producing wines of exceptional quality: scintillating, proper Burgundies, unusually across both reds and whites.

Features as one of the Top 10 Côte de Beaune Red Wine Producers and Top 10 Côte de Beaune White Wine Producers in Tim Atkin's Burgundy 2022 Special Report.

Self-confessed ‘acid freak’ Brian Sieve was especially careful with battonage and lees-stirring of the Chardonnays in 2022, to maintain freshness and verve, noting that it was not a high acid vintage. A little less new oak (not that there is ever more than just enough) and whole bunches in the reds than in the previous solar vintages, plus the gentler acid profile means the wines have a charm and immediacy to rival any vintage we’ve tasted from the domaine.

“From vines that abut La Tâche. 100% whole bunch, 55% new oak. Higher-toned nose than the regular Mal, with more stones, violets and ferrous soil, a tight red and blue fruit profile, with a red citrus note. Palate stretches long and high in to the cheekbones, succulent and vibrant, with lovely energy and lift, refined, chiselled tannins impart a note of salty liquorice on the persistent, mineral driven finish. Imposing and very fine.”
Tom Harrow, Head Wine Guru

What the critics say:

96-99/100Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy

"80% whole bunch vinification, a question of tank size. Additional intensity to the purple colour, and just that little bit more luxurious on the nose. It just grows and grows, then the palate is quite a lot richer, even with chocolate notes, plus some darker pepper. Yet the Cuvée Christiane is brilliantly nuanced, waves of flavour, less delicacy at this stage than the regular Malconsorts, but ultimately a sublime texture. Magical persistence. Drink from 2030-2040+. Tasted: October 2023. *****"

95-97/100Neal Martin, Vinous

"The 2022 Vosne-Romanee Les Malconsorts Cuvee Christiane 1er Cru has a very different bouquet compared to the regular cuvee, more so than other years: intense black cherries, wild strawberry, crushed limestone/pe-trichor and dried violets. Excellent delineation - even more crystalline than the regular bottling. The palate is medium-bodied with a creamier texture, gentle caressing with a very faint ferrous finish begging the word ... kaleidoscopic. It is a wonderful, multi-faceted Les Malconsorts in which you can easily lose yourself. "

About Domaine de Montille

Domaine de Montille is now in its ninth generation under the stewardship of sibling duo Étienne & Alix, who have largely remained true to their father’s vision of creating elegant, pure and balanced wines.

In fact Étienne was instrumental in pushing the sustainability of the Domaine by abandoning all chemical fertilisers and herbicides in 1985 and fully transitioning to biodynamic farming in 2005.
