Christmas is never complete without bubbly and Frerejean Freres’ Blanc de Blanc is always a winner, elsewhere described by Richard Juhlin as “the ultimate Blanc de Blanc on the market” – high praise from Champagne’s premier critic!
White Burgundy always makes an appearance over the festive period, and this year I’m enjoying the Monthelie Blanc Champs Rond from superstars Eric Boigelot. Hopping to South Africa, the City on a Hill Chenin Blanc was a personal highlight of our South Africa tasting, with its complex notes of dried lemon, manuka honey and melted wax.
Every festive table needs some Christmas claret, so a good thing we’ve loaded up on Gazin Rocquencourt’s knock-out 2014, one of the insider buys of the vintage. For your Burgundy, Tollot Beaut’s hidden 1er Cru monopole in Savigny “Champ Chevrey” is a real hidden gem, and the 2019 is drinking beautifully at the moment. Lastly, though certainly not least, everyone needs something rich and decadent, and here I recommend La Giaretta’s Amarone. It’s pure Black Forest Gateaux in the mouth and once you've tried this wine you will be hooked!
As always, my selection is unimpeachably the best, most luxurious Guru Case of all, so feel free to stock up!
